1. Reserve Bank of India today directed all commercial banks to compulsorily print the MICR and IFSC code on the passbook and statement of account of the customers.
2. South Korea-based Woori Bank, a part of the Woori Financial Group launched its first branch in India at Chennai to provide assistance to Korean companies in the country in corporate banking and to serve local clients. The Chennai branch would be the head office of Woori Bank in India.
3. Planning Commission today approved a total plan outlay of Rs. 48935 crore for Andhra Pradesh for the year 2012-13.
4. Indian government banned the experimentation on animals for training college and university students. International Animal Rights group “Humane Society International” lauded India's ban on animal testing.
5. Bangladesh suspended its National cricket team's tour of four weeks to Pakistan due to security reasons.
6. Department of Food and Public Distribution has signed an MoU with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) for scaling up computerization of Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) in the country.
7. G-20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting held in Washington. Leading economies in the G-20 Group have pledged more than 430 billion dollars aid to International Monetary Fund's Emergency Fund. The move effectively doubles its lending capacity for shoring up Euro.
8. Pink City Jaipur's Ranju Mehta has been conferred the Best Global Enterprising Educator 2012 award by the US-based international organisation.The award comprises a plaque and a cash component of $1,000.
9. China's Xiao Jia Chen defetaed India’s ace shuttler Saina Nehwal in the second round of the Asian Badminton Championship 2012 which is being played at Qingdao, China.
10. Supreme Court has partially lifted the ban on mining by private operators in three districts of Bellary, Tumkur and Chitradurga in Karnataka. The court also allowed the auction of iron ore already lying in stockyards under the supervision of monitoring committee.
11. Punjab Government today banned the manufacture, import and use of pesticides which are very injurious to health and cancer causing.

17. A sixteen member, Long Range Relay Patrol Team of Indo-Tibetan Border Police ‘ITBP’ was flagged off from Nathula, in Sikkim today at a height of about 14,500 feet on the India-China border.

  1. Reliance: A debt free company
    Helped by a huge cash pile of over Rs 70,000 crore, corporate giant Reliance Industries has become a debt-free entity -- a feat its billionaire chief Mukesh Ambani had promised to achieve about ten months ago.
    At the end of last financial year ended March 31, 2012, Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) had total cash balance of Rs 70,252 crore (USD 13.8 billion), as against an outstanding debt of Rs 68,259 crore (USD 13.4 billion) -- making the country's most valued firm debt free on a net cash basis.
